Professor Martin Ahrens, lecturer at the Georg-August Universität Göttingen in Germany and former Dean of the Faculty of Law in Göttingen, will be awarded an honorary doctorate by the ELTE Senate on 12 May 2023.

Professor will give his honorary doctoral lecture on Entwicklungslinien des deutschen Zivilverfahrensrechts.

Professor Ahrens is an internationally renowned scholar of civil law and civil procedure, both in academia and in practice. Before taking up the professorship in Göttingen, he had a substantial legal practice, which partly determined his academic research focus. His academic work covers the history of substantive (contract) law and procedural codification, as well as insolvency law (domestic, international and European), which is of particular practicalimportance. In the field of insolvency law, he is the author and co-author of numerous German commentaries, textbooks and manuals, the author of six monographs or commentaries of monographic size, and has published hundreds of articles. From the beginning, he has been an enthusiastic supporter and teaching participant at the ELTE-Göttingen Deutsche Rechtsschule.
